Grand Opening of Windsor’s ONLY Makerspace

Meta Makers Cooperative (M2C), Windsor-Essex’s only community makerspace, is celebrating the grand opening of its new, much larger, location on Saturday, May 25th at 628 Monmouth Road, ground floor of Sho Studios, N8Y 3L1.

This free event is open to the public and all are invited to come out and experience everything a makerspace has to offer. A makerspace is a place where people with shared interests can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Attendees can enter a draw for a chance to win one of 10 full-year membership giveaways, donated courtesy of CanCam CNC Machines.

The recipient of a $60,000 Community Services Recovery Fund (CSRF) grant, the new facility has been outfitted with upgraded tools, such as: 3D printers, laser engraver, CNC mill, saw-stop-enabled table saw, automated embroidery machine, stained glass equipment, and more. “Our goal is to make state-of-the-art technologies accessible to members of the community who could not otherwise afford it,” says cofounder Nik Steel.

Open house activities with demonstrations in pottery, stained glass, fibre arts, letterpress printing, and more begin at 2:00 pm. Ribbon cutting by Ward 4 Councillor Mark McKenzie at 4:30 pm followed by unveiling of interactive gear wall and draw, and social at 5:00 pm.

Founded as a volunteer-run non-profit cooperative in January 2019, and facilitated by members, M2C’s mission is to provide resources to foster innovation and bridge the gap between science, technology, and the arts.
