Gibson Gallery is a historic train station built in 1896. Come in to see some the original architecture including beautiful fanlights and hardwood flooring. Attached at the back is a 1945 former Hiram Walker box car where we house a small train museum. This art gallery runs exhibits from March through to our annual Holiday Artisan Shoppe.
Gibson Gallery is run by Fort Malden Guild of Arts and Crafts, an arts and crafts guild started in 1945. The former Michigan Central Railway Station was purchased by Florence Gibson in 1969 and donated to Fort Malden Guild of Arts and Crafts to use as a permanent home for the guild, which was incorporated in 1975 as a charitable organization.
Their mandate is “to encourage and foster cultural development in the fields of fine arts and applied arts”.
The Gibson Gallery holds Art by the River, going into its 58th year in 2025, as it’s main fundraiser, to keep entrance into the gallery free for patrons. Over 170 vendors come out to Fort Malden Historic site each year to this event, offering handmade items for sale.
