Link’s May Dinner Meeting : “Women in Leadership Roles - Advice

Hilda MacDonald, Mayor of the Municipality of Leamington is speaking at Link Networking on May 21st.

Hilda recognizes the importance of stepping up and stepping out to create positive change. She uses her natural gifts and talents to strengthen her community.

Hilda owned and successfully operated a retail business in uptown Leamington called Strawberries for 10 years before selling it. She learned what the struggles of running a small business are and also what a great thing it can be.

During those years in uptown Leamington, she built some strong relationships with key leaders in the community and her interest in the local political scene began.

After selling the shop, she ran for council in 2006 and 2010, leading the polls both times. In 2014, she was acclaimed as deputy mayor.

After three terms of serving the municipality, she was ready personally and professionally. “I’ve raised my family here and my four grandchildren are here as well. I want to ensure the best for them now and in the future.”
As an elected representative, she wants to make sure the needs and priorities of the community are defined and communicated. “We can’t always satisfy, but we can be accessible and accountable.”

“We don’t want fine. We want better.”
