It is hard to think of a Cultural Festival in Windsor without thinking of the Greek Orthodox Community of Windsor’s food and music!
On Saturday, September 15th and Sunday, September 16th we invite you to indulge in Greek food and music, at a festival dedicated to our 64 year history in the Windsor-Essex community.
The Opa! Festival will be taking place at our new Hellenic Cultural Centre, 3052 Walker Road (at EC Row). Our location offers convenient city wide accessibility, with plenty of on-site parking.
The Festival site is also home to the new Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church.
The Greek Orthodox Community and Church have a long history connecting us to our city. We are taking this opportunity to celebrate, and welcome the entire community, at the time of our Church ‘Name Day’.
HOLY CROSS NAME DAY
According to the Greek Orthodox Church, every day of the year is dedicated to the memory of at least one saint or martyr. If a Church is named after a saint, then there is a big celebration in honour of their name day. The traditional format of a Church’s name celebration or Panigiri is a feast.
The celebration includes food, drinks, and music!
On September 14th, our Church, (Holy Cross) celebrates its’ feast day.
“We invite the community to celebrate this great occasion with us. Bring your family and friends for food, and real Greek style fun” says festival director Soula Efthymiou. “this is our version of Octoberfest, sampling Greek flavours, music, and family time.”
Ouzo won’t be the only beverage at the bar. Wine, beer and spirits will also be available.
Our excellent Greek Community cooks will be in the kitchen preparing all the traditional Festival favourites.
