Pink Shirt Day: Not Just a Day for Kids… Older Adults and Bullying

March 11 @ 12:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Pink Shirt Day: Not Just a Day for Kids… Older Adults and Bullying

Family Services Windsor-Essex (FSWE) is supporting the Anti-Bullying Campaign to help raise awareness of bullying of older adults: #PinkShirtDayForAll.

In a recent Canadian study, preliminary reports identified that 57% of English-speaking older adult respondents reported being bullied in the last 4 months.

Did you know… that through our Elder Abuse Response Service, FSWE helps older adults deal with neglect, bullying and abuse? Elder Abuse can include:

  • Financial or property misuse
  • Physical or sexual abuse
  • Mental or Emotional abuse
  • Caregiver neglect or self-neglect

This year Elder Abuse Ontario in collaboration with the Windsor-Essex Elder Abuse Prevention Network is offering a free half day Train the Trainer workshop for professionals in our community.

This training was created and tested to support bystanders to:

  • Understand the relationship between ageism and abuse of older adults
  • Interrupt the social isolation that goes with abusive relationships by:
  • Recognize warning signs
  • Respond with a conversation that can open the door for support
  • Refer to services and supports that are available in the community

For further information, please contact Mehnaz Rafat, Program Coordinator of FSWE’s 2Elder Abuse Response Service, at [email protected], or 519-966-5010 x1035.
