Publisher Deborah Jones
Deborah Jones has worked in the publishing industry since 1990 and has experience in every department of the magazine business from Office Manager to Freelance Writer to an Accounting Clerk and Editor, before being quickly promoted to Publisher at the young age of 26. She then made the jump to becoming her own boss and started up Biz X magazine in 1998. Deborah loves her job as she continually gets to meet new people as well as having the opportunity to learn the intimate details of all different types of businesses that make the Motor Cities prosper and flourish.
Deborah was chosen Entrepreneur of the Year by the Windsor Chamber of Commerce for 2007! Deborah and the entire Biz X team appreciate all the support they have received from customers, suppliers, friends, and the entire business community!
Her most recent achievement is a “2016 Vocational Service Award” from the Rotary Club of Windsor Roseland and the 2015 “Outstanding Business of the Year Award” from BANA. Contact Deborah
Della Jones is the Assistant to the Publisher. Della is involved in all departments of the magazine from subscriptions to proofreading, accounting, ad design and more – but that’s only when she’s not running all over the city to pick up materials or coordinating the freelance staff to help save the Publisher valuable time!
As a member of the family that owns Biz X, Della is extremely committed to keeping the magazine in the #1 spot. She particularly enjoys attending the many functions that Biz X is lucky to be invited to and meeting all the great people in the business community. Kathy is in charge of office administration and is the friendly voice you’ll hear over the phone in the Accounting Department. She’s our Wonder Woman, always ready to go on a moment’s notice and willing to pitch in to do whatever is necessary to get the job done.
Since she is part of the family that owns Biz X she enjoys helping out to ensure the day-to-day operations run smoothly.
Rae provides Biz X with page layout and pre-production services, and lots of excellent suggestions on how to improve our readers’ experience. She has been a member of the Windsor Essex advertising design and marketing community for over 25 years.
After ending her 15-year career with a local newspaper, she built a team of online specialists with a passion for “all things Internet.”
On a professional level, she aspires to excellent design and communication skills, honed first at two advertising agencies, then at weekly newspapers and a daily newspaper. She is proficient in graphic design computer programs, has firsthand experience in web products, and is well versed in social media.
Colin is the in-office computer whiz, chief bean counter, ad design co-ordinator, Circulation Manager, the R&D specialist, a co-editor – need we write more? He is definitely a vital link in the success of the company as he supervises all divisions.
As a member of the family that owns Biz X, Colin always has his ear to the ground and is extremely interested in making sure the magazine remains the leading publication in the region.
He finds the best part of his job is hearing all the positive feedback we receive from readers on the content (ads, photos and stories) in the magazine. Contact Colin
Rodney L. Denis
A professional photographer for over 30 years, Rod Denis has shot everything from fashion models and commercial products to food and automobiles.
Denis is a graduate of the photography program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario and has worked in major centres such as Toronto, Halifax and Detroit. Since 1991 he has operated Rodney L. Denis Photography shooting commercial projects for corporate brochures, catalogues, calendars and the web.
Alan Halberstadt is a career journalist who served on Windsor City Council for 17 years before deciding not to run for re-election in 2014. He has kept his hand in active politics as a public school board trustee, and he delights in using his “Editorial Viewpoint” column to inform and provoke readers on municipal government issues.
He also regularly contributes freelance revelations on tax and political matters picked up through his many contacts around town.
Steven is Vice President and an Investment Advisor with RBC Dominion Securities in Windsor. He has been helping clients achieve their financial objectives since 1984, constructing investment solutions unique and appropriate to each client.
As author of the monthly column, “Portfolio Corner” Steve has the perfect avenue to educate investors on better understanding market movements, portfolio strategies, and the importance of suitable investment behaviour.
Joe is in his 13th year as a volunteer with TVCogeco as their on air personality at Windsor City and Essex County Council Meetings, and his 11 years as a registered Ontario Marriage Officiant. Joe now shares his talents and numerous life experiences with Biz X as a regular blogger, columnist and any other “Joe – Jobs” we can find for him.
Drew Dilkens is a lifelong resident of the City of Windsor, he was elected as the city’s Mayor in 2014. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and a law degree from the University of Windsor.
He also has a Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University and received his Doctorate of Business Administration from the International School of Management in Paris, France.
He and his wife, Jane Deneau, have two young children. His monthly column in Biz X, “On the Mayor’s Mind” relates to topics of interest to the citizens of Windsor ranging from economic development and budget to city services and sports tourism.
Marlene Markham Gay
She promotes local authors through the book corner at the Essex Railway Station, which allows them to display and sell books. Marlene is an avid reader and encourages her eight grandchildren to read. So many books and too little time prevent her from reading the same book twice.
Rebecca has been a regular contributor to Biz X Magazine since 2013. She writes and shoots photos for the magazine and her work has been published in various community publications.
She is currently an instructor in St. Clair College’s Journalism and Public Relations programs. Through Biz X, she takes pride in connecting with the community’s business world and being able to share the stories of local entrepreneurs through her articles and photos.
Dave is a graduate of the Civil Engineering Technology program at St. Clair College in Windsor. He is currently the Field & Laboratory Manager of a local Engineering Firm and has been involved in materials testing, site inspections, and condition surveys on various notable structures throughout our region for the past 13 years.
Dave is our resident “Mr. Home Improvement” and has been a Contributing Writer to Biz X since 2004 with the column “Ask the Experts.”
Dave Hall is a former reporter for The Windsor Star who contributes monthly features to Biz X magazine. Dave spent almost 40 years at the paper, covering sports, general news, municipal politics and business. Prior to that, Dave worked for The Brampton Times where he covered general news and sports.
For Biz X he covers all kinds of topics from politics to small business profiles — anything and everything that makes up this wonderful area, we call home!
He is very active in the community on a local and national scale and has served as President of United Way, Hospice, The Windsor Jewish Community Council and many other organizations. This included a 10 year term as a Member of the Board of Governors of the University of Windsor as well as serving as Chair of the Windsor Planning Board.
Now that he has “retired”, Richard is writing articles for Biz X capitalizing on his experience and sharing some of his business and life philosophies in this publication. In his time off, he tries to get in some travel and he spends some of the winter in Florida.
David H. Clark
David has been contributing to Biz X magazine since 2012. His recent contributions have included writing automotive material and his mainstay, “Food for Thought.”
David is up to the challenge of putting together this food related article each issue because it is presented to the readers in a way that makes them feel like they are absorbing those special tastes, culture and the overall atmosphere of the restaurant itself. And that is a huge plus for the local dining industry! This regular column also profiles caterers and specialty food shops and gives all foodies something to think about!
As a respected Veterans Advocate, Andrea Grimes is recognized for her commitment to raising the awareness of the importance of remembrance.
For her contributions in service to our military families, Andrea was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Andrea introduces the roles that our Veterans “of all stripes” played in service to Canada through the Biz X page, “The Way It Was.”
Arthur is the Managing Director at the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator. He advises start-ups and small businesses on the multiple facets of starting and growing a business, enabling clients to realize their full potential as entrepreneurs.
Arthur is also in the process of completing his doctorate studies in business, with a focus on entrepreneurship. He is passionate about using his practical and academic insights to help develop innovative ecosystems that allow entrepreneurs to prosper.
