Ontario Medical Association honors Essex County Medical Society with Routley Challenge Award
The Ontario Medical Association conferred a prestigious award known as the Routley Challenge Award upon the Essex County Medical Society at Annual OMA Awards in Toronto on May 6, 2017. This award honors the collective efforts of the entire membership and executive of the ECMS towards the medical care of this region.
The initial nomination came from Honorary President of the ECMS, Dr Frank Demarco. The ECMS President for 2016 as well as 2017 is the Chief of Nephrology, Dr Amit Bagga.
The Essex County Medical Society started with 20 doctors in 1913, and has from that time remained dynamic and has expanded its membership to almost 500 representing the majority of physicians of the Windsor / Essex County area with an engaged and enthusiastic ECMS Executive.
With increasing collaborations between the University of Windsor Satellite Medical School Campus, Western University in London, Windsor Regional Hospital, and the Essex County Medical Society, this has encouraged a steady influx of physicians to the region. Due to diverse practices of outpatient and inpatient, family physicians and specialists, researchers and teachers, Windsor based and County based, political advocates and philanthropists, this has encouraged a robust ECMS membership to allow social & professional networking of physicians to meet the ‘face behind the fax’
Highlights of the ECMS Annual events include : Clinical Education Days with State-of-the-Art Seminars on Current Advances in Medical Therapy, Appreciation Lunch for Retired members, First Five Years in Practice group, a Fund Raising Golf tournament, Scholarships, and some lighter social events to bring together local MD families.
In summary, this prestigious award speaks to the enthusiasm and energy of an engaged robust membership of MD’s within the local Essex County Medical Society from many perspectives including research, teaching at the local Windsor Campus of the Schulich Medical school, healthcare advocacy, community engagement, philanthropy, and strong clinical care from the spectrum of MD’s in this region.
