CAMPP HOSTS JOHN SEWELL, FORMER TORONTO MAYOR, TO TALK ABOUT CITY BUILDING & ROLE OF HOSPITALS
CAMPP or the Citizens for an Accountable Mega-Hospital Planning Process is hosting two public events looking at the role hospitals play in cities, and problems that come with hospital consolidation and construction of “mega” facilities in Ontario.
JOHN SEWELL, former Toronto mayor and City Councillor, author, urban activist and Member of the Order of Canada, will lead a compelling discussion of interest to all who are concerned about the future of Windsor-Essex as it confronts social and economic problems related to urban sprawl amid record unemployment, excessive property vacancy rates and pressure to keep taxes unchanged.
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING: A screening of the acclaimed 2015 film directed by Avi Lewis, based on Naomi Klein’s book with the same name, will take place in collaboration with the Council of Canadians, Windsor Chapter. With its powerful message of hope, the film confronts the challenges of rebuilding local economies and reclaiming democracy in the face of climate change and unbridled corporate power.
TAMARA STOMP, Windsor lawyer, former Deputy Mayor of Kingsville, will share her perspective on the importance of building a vibrant city core as a means to achieving better regional strength.
STEVE GREEN, passionate environmentalist and urban activist, Coordinator of the W-E Community Garden Collective, will discuss risks to environmental sustainability and food security caused by rampant development of productive farmland, a protected and limited natural resource.
Events on both days are free of charge and all are welcome. All members of Windsor City Council have been invited. Guests are welcome to participate in as many or as few of the program events as they wish.
