Pledge To Drive Sober This Holiday Season

Holiday parties and gatherings may more limited this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the risk for impaired driving remains. MADD Windsor & Essex County is promoting the sober driving message with its 2020 Project Red Ribbon campaign.

Running from November 2, 2020 to January 4, 2021 Project Red Ribbon is MADD Canada’s national holiday awareness campaign to encourage motorists to always drive sober. MADD Windsor & Essex County, and other MADD Canada groups around the country, will distribute red ribbons and red ribbon car decals for the public to display as a symbol of their commitment to sober driving.

The ribbons also serve as a powerful tribute to the victims of impaired driving. Every year, hundreds of people are killed and thousands are injured in alcohol and drug-related crashes that are entirely, 100%, preventable.

“No one expects to be impacted by impaired driving, but it happens every day,” said Chaouki Hamka, MADD Windsor & Essex Community Leader. “The red ribbon is a reminder that we can all play a role in preventing these tragic crashes, deaths and injuries.”

Make safe and sober driving a priority this holiday season. If you are going to be drinking, consuming cannabis or any other substance that impairs your ability to drive, please plan ahead. There are plenty of ride options available.
