Scotiabank donates $10,000 to The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County for settlement of Syrian refugees in Windsor.
The Scotiabank team today presented a donation of $10,000 to help support settlement of Syrian refugees efforts in Windsor, Ontario. This donation is part of Scotiabank’s efforts to support government identified resettlement programs in 36 communities across Canada. Scotiabank has already donated $400,000 to agencies identified across Canada who are involved in this endeavor.
Presenting the cheque to Kathleen Thomas, Executive Director of MCC was Elaine Genyn, Windsor Community Manager, Scotiabank. They were joined by Patricia Reid-Crichton (MCC) and Jelena Payne (Commissioner of Community Development and Health, City of Windsor).
Genyn advises that “the money is intended to assist the local Syrian refugee resettlement in areas where things sometimes fall through the gap. It will aid in such things as interpretation, child care and transportation.”
Thomas reported that to date, 590 Syrian refugees have found Windsor Essex their new home. And volunteers are still needed. To assist the resettlement efforts, contact the City of Windsor through 3-1-1, or follow the direction provided on the MCC website or the City of Windsor website.
