Shoreview At Riverside Drive Resident Honoured With Korean Ambassador For Peace Medal
When Biz X magazine posted the announcement of Windsor’s Korean War Veterans receiving their Korean Ambassador For Peace Medals on our website in August of 2024, the Shoreview at Riverside Drive reached out to us a few months later requesting to connect with Andrea Grimes (former contributing writer) since a 90-year old Veteran of the Korean War, Ray Silvius (who served with the Royal Canadian Regiment in Korea in 1952) resides at the residence.
“We make it a point to take time to get to know our residents – things in their lives that are meaningful,” says Heather Fontaine, Shoreview’s General Manager. “Our staff and residents enjoy how Ray brings such an engaging presence to our “Shoreview family.”
As Silvius is a recent resident of Shoreview (a retirement residence). Registered Practical Nurse, Carey Hollinsky advocated on Ray’s behalf by applying for his medal via the Defense Attaché Office, Embassy of the Republic of Korea under the auspices of the Korean Society of Windsor.
On December 27, 2024 Silvius was decorated with his Korean Ambassador For Peace Medal in the company of Hardy Wheeler, Secretary of the Windsor-Essex County Branch of the Royal Canadian Regiment Association, Richard Gow, President of the Windsor-Essex County Branch of the Royal Canadian Regiment Association, and Dong Ski Jee, Secretary of The Korean Society of Windsor.
“I am proud to share this honour with my regiment and I thank Carey for all she did for me to receive my medal from the Korean Embassy,” Silvius proudly states.
