WFCU ANNOUNCES RECIPIENTS 2016 COMMUNITY DONATIONS FUND $28,000 AWARDED TO WINDSOR-ESSEX ORGANIZATIONS
In January 2016, WFCU Credit Union issued a call for proposals inviting non-profit groups and organizations to apply for the 2016 Community Donations Fund, a fund dedicated to assisting community organizations in delivering programs and projects for the Windsor and Essex County region. Proposals were divided into four specific categories: Health and Wellness, Quality of Life, Cultural/Community and Support/Information.
Each proposal submitted required the following information:
- Detailed description, background and history of the organization.
- Most recent annual report including financial statements.
- Listing of board of directors and key staff.
List and description of normal funding sources. - Current programs and programs offered in previous year.
- Focus, objective(s) and target audience of the program/project.
- Budget, including total cost of the program/project and other funding sources for the program/project.
- Program/project evaluation procedures.
Over sixty-five proposals were submitted and reviewed by a volunteer committee comprised of WFCU Credit Union employees and a member of the Board of Directors. The Committee takes great pride in their task to thoroughly review each application and evaluate the merits of the request, and if approved the benefits it will provide to our community.
The Community Donations Fund is a significant element of WFCU Credit Union’s overall Community Investment Program. Over the last fifteen years, WFCU Credit Union has invested over $10 million back into the community through the Community Investment Program, $320,000 specifically through the Community Donations Funds.
Today, WFCU Credit Union announced the 26 recipients of the 2016 Community Donations Fund. The organizations deliver a wide range of programs and represent a cross-section of community groups and agencies from the region.
“We are here today to recognize the efforts of organizations in our community that help make our community a better place” said Martin J. Komsa, WFCU Credit Union President and Chief Executive Officer. “Giving back to our community is not just a philosophy at WFCU Credit Union but an integral part of who we are.” In a surprise announcement during the reception, Komsa increased total funds awarded to the recipients by $8,000, bringing this year’s Community Donations Fund total to $28,000.
WFCU Credit Union’s mission statement is to provide services and a full range of the highest quality financial products to make the community the best place to live and work. WFCU Credit Union believes that the Community Donations Fund is a program that helps to accomplish this goal, however, it is just a small part of WFCU Credit Union’s overall commitment to Windsor and surrounding areas.
Through its overall Community Investment Program and in addition to the Community Donations Fund, this Program provides Community Relations Initiatives, Youth Scholarships, Goods-In-Kind and Volunteerism, Free Community Rooms, Multi-Year Giving and The Community 1 Free Chequing Account.
As a locally owned and operated financial institution, WFCU Credit Union believes that being a responsible corporate citizen means investing in the community in which you operate and live. In short, WFCU Credit Union believes supporting its community is a sound investment and takes great pride in its designation by the Canadian Centre of Philanthropy’s Imagine Program as a “Caring Company”.
