Debra Harshaw To Head Windsor-St. Clair Rotary for 2016/2017
Debra Harshaw has been inducted as the President of the Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair for the 2016/2017 Rotary year. A Rotarian since 2003, Debra is the owner of Harshaw Physiotherapy, and is a long-time advocate of physical health and well-being. She has previously chaired the Rotary TV Auction, and has been a significant contributor to Rotary youth initiatives.
‘Rotary Serving Humanity’ is the theme selected by John Germ, President of Rotary International, for 2016/2017. “Service to humanity has been the cornerstone of Rotary since its earliest days, and has been its main purpose ever since,” he states. “I believe that there is no better path to meaningful service today than Rotary membership; and no organization better placed to make a real and positive difference in our world. No other organization so effectively brings together committed, capable professionals in a wide variety of fields, and enables them to achieve ambitious goals. Through Rotary, we have the capacity, the network, and the knowledge to change the world: the only limits are the ones we place on ourselves.”
Harshaw intends to fulfil this mission through a focus on youth, connecting the club with the broader work of Rotary both locally and globally, and the club’s green initiatives.
“Through Rotary, we have the opportunity to work together with like-minded individuals, to assist in improving the circumstances and life situations of our local and international village,” she says. “Participation in and fellowship through groups such as Rotary is and will continue to be an integral part of the re-villaging of our culture.”
Rotary is the world’s largest service organization with 1.2 million members. The Rotary Club of Windsor St. Clair is comprised of about 32 members from around the Essex region dedicated to improving our local and worldwide communities by undertaking projects to address hunger, health, literacy, promote physical activity, and provide support to the financially disadvantaged in our community.
Some of the club’s projects include the Ganatchio Trail, the region’s first boundary-free playground in the Town of Tecumseh, the Rotary Roundabout at Manning Road, Wake Up Windsor/Get a Working Smoke Alarm, and RELAY, which has built and refurbished five schools in Africa.
