Where’s the Beef? Al Quesnel and Ted Farron Beef Up Downtown Mission Freezers
In the popular 1980’s commercial for Wendy’s hamburger chain, the restaurant poked fun at their competition when actress Clara Peller asked the question, Where’s the beef? Sadly, for hurting and marginalized people, small servings of beef, or worse hunger and food security is not very humorous.
The Downtown Mission is experiencing an increased demand in the number of meals being served each day at a time when food donations are less frequent. Coming to the assistance of the Downtown Mission and the people who rely on the Mission for their daily meals is local philanthropist, Al Quesnel and businessman/butcher, Ted Farron. These generous individuals have teamed up to donate $6000 in nutritious meat products. The meat will be picked up by the Downtown Mission on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Ted Farron’s Gourmet Butcher Shop (corner of Dougall and Cabana) at 11:00 AM.
“We are serving 726 hungry people a day through our dining room and foodbank,” explained Ron Dunn, Downtown Mission Chief Executive Officer, “Food donations traditionally slow down in regularity and volume during the summer months. This donation is very timely and we thank Mr. Quesnel and Mr. Farron for stepping forward to help us restock our freezers during this seasonal shortage.”
Both Mr. Farron and Mr. Quesnel are among this community’s most recognized and generous philanthropists, supporting a variety of social service, healthcare, religious and educational organizations.
“I’m hoping that this will get others interested in helping the Mission. I know the Mission is short on food right now, and I am very happy to team with Al to help feed hungry people in Windsor,” said Ted Farron
