Lakeshore Warns of Door to Door Salespersons
Numerous residents of the Town of Lakeshore have reported door-to-door salespeople attempting to gain access to their homes to conduct water sampling tests in order to sell in-home water purification equipment. Only laboratories fully accredited by the Ministry of the Environment and licensed to perform drinking water quality testing are authorized to perform health-based tests on municipal drinking water.
Such salespeople are NOT Town employees and the Town does not endorse their activity. If any person appears at your home and claims to be an employee of the Town, you should ask to see their Town-issued ID showing their photo, name and department they work for. You are welcome to contact the Town to confirm this information.
Only Town-employed Certified Licensed Water Operators are permitted to represent the Town’s Water Department – these employees carry proper Town identification, and they DO NOT sell in-home water purification equipment.
Water purifier salespeople may claim that there are issues with the quality of water in Lakeshore. This information is false.
The water in Lakeshore is not ‘red-lined’ or ‘hard’, nor is there a mandatory requirement for individuals to install water softener. Hardness of water is a measure of the calcium and magnesium salts present in water. Hardness is only an issue when water is classified as very hard and then the water will deposit a scale when it is heated. At that level water needs to be softened to protect hot water equipment like water heaters, dishwashers and kettles from scale damage. Hard water is not a health concern and is not a concern in Lakeshore.
The Town’s drinking water continually meets and exceeds the stringent water quality standards set out by the Province of Ontario.
