Ontario is Seeking Public Input in Windsor to Develop the 2017 Budget

Ontario is seeking input from individuals, organizations and businesses in Windsor to help shape policies and programs that will be part of Ontario’s 2017 Budget.

Yvan Baker, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance, hosted a pre-budget consultation today at St. Clair College Centre for the Arts in Windsor as part of a provincewide engagement process for the 2017 Budget.

Pre-budget consultations are an essential part of budget development, and it is important that the 2017 Budget reflect what we hear from people and help them in their everyday lives.” — Yvan Baker, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance

In addition to the public budget consultations, people across Ontario were also able to submit ideas for the third year in a row through Budget Talks, an online consultation tool. Through Budget Talks, the government will provide $3 million to fund up to eight proposals as part of the 2017 Budget, making Ontario the first province to commit to funding ideas from the public as part of its budget process.

Engaging the people of Ontario in the budget process is part of our plan to create jobs, grow our economy and help people in their everyday lives.

  • In 2016, Ontarians shared 1,732 ideas, cast 53,402 votes and wrote 4,540 comments during the pre-budget consultation process.
  • The submission phase of Budget Talks is now closed with more than 400 project ideas submitted.
  • General budget feedback sent via mail, email or fax (416-325-0969) to the Ministry of Finance is due by January 31, 2017.
  • This year’s pre-budget consultations are taking place in cities across Ontario, including Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Mississauga, Hamilton, London and Windsor.
