Skills Saturday Workshops

On Saturday, August 8, the John R. Park Homestead will host a Skills Saturday Workshop Series, in advance of the Lost Arts Festival. Participants are invited to join some of the many talented festival artists for a curated selection of workshops to learn new skills and leave with a finished work of art. These hands-on, knowledge-sharing classes provide a a unique opportunity to learn traditional crafts and techniques from experienced instructors.

“Lost arts often require specialized knowledge and an application of personal style that many modern activities don’t demand,” said Homestead Curator Kris Ives. “This can create a sense of accomplishment and unique identity for those who practice them. It will be inspiring for workshop participants to learn these skills directly from the artists and artisans who are advanced in their fields.”

Workshop options include Intro to Tatting, Bone and Thorn Needle Making, Sew a Leather Pouch and Introduction to Linocut Printmaking. Each workshop is priced at $25 plus HST and includes instruction, all materials, and admission to the John R. Park Homestead.
Spaces are limited, and pre-registration is required. Register early to avoid disappointment and discover the skills behind these fascinating lost arts.

Please note there are four different workshops held on Saturday August 8, 2026, each with different start times (as listed below):
– 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
– 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
– 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
– 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
