Refugees will be welcomed by the hundreds over the coming months to Windsor and Essex County.

United Way invites you to join us in supporting these settlement efforts.

Refugees can be helped in two easy ways:

  1. Support the work of United Way and its community partners to ensure that refugees can successfully build productive lives for their families in Canada. To learn more about our role in welcoming and supporting refugees, see below.
  2. Learn more about opportunities to help settle Syrian families in our local community by contacting 211’s 24-hour telephone help line (2-1-1), available in 150+ languages, or by visiting the 211 website (ca).

Like many Canadians, at United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County we’re concerned by the situation facing refugees – and we want to do everything we can to help and welcome them to Canada.

By working together, we can ensure that refugees get the best start and the right supports to build a new life in Canada.

United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County Supports Refugee Settlement

United Way is stepping up to provide support and take direct action to facilitate a collective and coordinated effort at the local level.  Led by the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County and the City of Windsor, we are working alongside our partners, other local non-profits, businesses, governments and individuals to develop coordinated local response plans.

How to help:

  1. DONATE to directly support refugees through United Way at weareunited.com/UnitedForRefugees

By making a donation, you are supporting a range of services and supports to individuals and families requiring housing, dental and other medical needs, and other expenses not covered through other local, provincial, and federal programs.

  1. VISIT www.WEVolunteer.ca  to connect with organizations which may be looking for volunteers to support settlement efforts.

In addition to this initiative, United Way supports many other programs that are available to refugees:

  • Children and youth programs, some of which specifically help young newcomers adjust to life and school in Canada
  • Food banks
  • Mental Health Counselling Services
  • Family Support Programs
  • Seniors Outreach Programs

To support these and other United Way-funded programs DONATE to United Way at weareunited.com/donate.
