Rino Bortolin Seeks Provincial Liberal Nomination in Windsor West
City councillor Rino Bortolin announced this morning he is seeking the provincial Liberal nomination in the riding of Windsor West.
“Windsorites need a representative who works as hard as they do and I’m ready to fight for their interests at Queen’s Park,” said Bortolin, 44. “I have tirelessly advocated for my constituents at the municipal level. I believe I can offer them even stronger representation on the provincial stage.”
Bortolin, a married father of three, was elected as the councillor for Ward 3 in the 2014 municipal election. He has consistently championed open and transparent government and the interests of small business. He has worked relentlessly to address the safety and security concerns of his constituents and believes strongly in the need to create stronger, more liveable neighbourhoods.
A former restaurant owner who wrote a cookbook with recipes using only local ingredients, Bortolin understands better than most the challenges faced by business owners and young workers. He believes the minimum wage boost and youth pharmacare plan introduced by Premier Kathleen Wynne are progressive policies that will provide lasting dividends but that more work needs to be done.
“With a growing aging population and changing demographics, investments in healthcare are critical. Targeted investments in children’s mental health and creating more long-term care beds while expanding home care services is what this community needs. This government has been listening and we need to ensure Windsor gets the proper investments with strong representation.” – City councillor Rino Bortolin
“We need to continue marketing Windsor as a smart and diverse manufacturing centre located at the heart of an international trading corridor,” said Bortolin. “We need to ensure business owners have access to a skilled workforce and the ability to not only compete but thrive in the global marketplace. A strong emphasis must be placed on diversification, focusing on new technologies and start ups.”
Bortolin was born and raised in Windsor. He is a graduate of Catholic Central High School and studied philosophy at the University of Windsor. A proud member of Windsor’s hospitality industry for more than two decades, Bortolin has owned and managed three Windsor-area restaurants. He is the author of “Rino’s Kitchen: Cooking Local in Windsor and Essex County.”
The nomination meeting will be held March 27 at the Fogolar Furlan Club. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., meeting to commence at 6pm. Public is welcome.
