Biz X Was There – Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2017
After a few days of rain the sun was shining bright for the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on May 6, 2017 at the Riverside Sportsmen Club, 10835 Riverside Drive East, Windsor.
There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in her shoes.” And at this event held during Sexual Assault Prevention Month local men were able to put themselves in a women’s shoes!
The Windsor walk is a free, fun event to raise awareness about the issue of sexual violence against women, it is not a fundraiser. Men walk a mile in high heeled shoes which symbolize the oppression of women in order to demonstrate their commitment to ending sexual violence in our community.
The event was emceed by Joe McParland of Biz X magazine. Representatives from the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services and many other organizations and companies also attended and participated in the walk down Ganatchio Trail. Everyone also enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the club to fuel their energy!
Lydia Fiorini, Executive Director of SACC and her team were pleased with the turnout of men who spent a mile of their time acknowledging and showing our community, they understand the impact of the ugly crime of Sexual Violence on women and children’s lives.
