Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island have won three Ontario Tourism Resiliency Awards at the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario’s (TIAO) Ontario Tourism Summit, presented October 26, 2022 in Huntsville.

The Tourism Resiliency Awards are designed to honour tourism partners across the province in three areas during 2021, and recognized Tourism Windsor Essex in the following areas:

  • for INNOVATION – Get Hooked Fishing Tournament in the Outdoor & Resourced Based Tourism categories
  • for COLLABORATION – #DineYQG & #ShopYQG Campaigns in the Food Services category

“These awards clearly recognize Tourism Windsor Essex’s adaptability during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are proud of our ongoing efforts to bolster the image and economy of the region by developing, marketing, and promoting our destination in cooperation within a united tourism industry” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex. “It is an honour to be recognized in a number of ways on the provincial stage and in front of the largest tourism industry gathering of the year.”

Tourism Windsor Essex’s ‘Get Hooked Fishing Tournament’ was launched in April 2021 during lockdown measures in partnership with Anglers Atlas and Devonshire Mall. The virtual fishing tournament encouraged outdoor exploration along our 100 mile coast while staying socially distanced, and saw 120+ fishers catch over 3.6k+ fish during the 10 day tournament which featured a prize board over $3,000.

Tourism Windsor Essex’s #DineYQG and #ShopYQG were launched during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in collaboration with the Windsor Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. The programs were designed to support local restaurants and retail partners when they were being hit the most, and the two brands are still utilized to promote our stakeholder partners at www.dineyqg.ca and www.shopyqg.ca. In 2021 the program websites saw over 38k website views.

Tourism Windsor Essex was also nominated for additional awards, including:

  • for SUSTAINABILITY – W.E. Heart Local campaign in the Beverage and Destination Marketing Organization categories
  • for COLLABORATION – #DineYQG & #ShopYQG Campaigns in the Attractions, Beverages, and Destination Marketing Organization categories
