Huron Church Open for Bridge Traffic Only from Expressway to Wyandotte

While the Ambassador Bridge blockade has ended, Huron Church Road from the E.C. Row Expressway north to Wyandotte Street remains a bridge-traffic-only route. Motorists that are not bound for the United States are asked to avoid Huron Church Road at this time.

On a time-limited basis, and until the security situation improves, Windsor Police will block east-west access for vehicles in this area to ensure that the safe flow of bridge traffic continues and all contingency plans needed are in place.

Businesses in the area remain open, but alternate access routes that do not rely on Huron Church road are needed for the time being. At this time, patience and understanding from all involved is highly appreciated as law enforcement continue to manage this ongoing operation.

“Local manufacturers and exporters who rely on the Ambassador Bridge know the dramatic and significant impact that the illegal occupation had on operations last week,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “To ensure that we can maintain a reliable border crossing for trade and commerce in the immediate near term, we need to ensure Huron Church Road remains cleared. We commit to working closely with businesses along the route who are adversely impacted by these short-term and time-limited measures.”

Police and City staff will be updating businesses along the route directly and answering questions in support of this local security plan.

To support this ongoing security operation and to allow for continued nimble and agile response as municipal resources are deployed in support of ongoing Windsor Police operations, Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens has declared a State of Emergency related to this matter.

Pedestrians needing to cross Huron Church are asked to do so at the overpass by Assumption College Catholic High School or the intersection of Tecumseh Road. Motorists are asked to cross Huron Church at Wyandotte Street, University Avenue, Riverside Drive, or an intersection south of the E.C. Row Expressway.

Transit Windsor has detoured the Central 3/Central 3 West routes. Riders on these routes should expect delays, and service to some areas of the routes will be suspended until further notice. In addition, riders may experience delays on the other east-west routes in the area (1C and 2). Detour and real-time bus information can be found on the Transit Windsor website (www.transitwindsor.ca).
