United Way honours generous community partners. The 2015 I Believe in My Community Award recipients recognized.

On Wednesday, March 9, 2015, United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County welcomed almost 400 guests to celebrate and pay tribute to some of our most generous and dedicated supporters, and the recipients of the 2015 I Believe in My Community Award.

These prestigious awards are presented annually to workplaces, unions and individuals for outstanding contributions to the community through United Way.

Eight awards were presented to local organizations for their extraordinary giving and community involvement (see listing below and award descriptions below).  Nominations were collected earlier this year and reviewed by a volunteer selection committee.   In addition to the award recipients selected by the community, United Way recognized Bill and Rochelle Tepperman, CUPE Local 82, and Caesars Windsor with special awards for their voluntarism, financial support, and leadership.

“The I Believe in My Community Award celebrates the dedicated individuals, volunteers, unions, and workplaces of Windsor and Essex County which support United Way,” said Lorraine Goddard, CEO of United Way.  “These generous supporters are taking bold action to reduce the effects of poverty for those who experience it every day in our community, and we are so grateful for their continued partnerships.”

The event was generously presented by Green Shield Canada, the 2015 Lead Campaign organization, along with Caesars Windsor, The Windsor Star, and CKLW AM800.  Award sponsors included: Caesars Windsor, Green Shield Canada, K+S Windsor Salt, Netmon, UNIFOR Locals 200, 444 and 2458, and Windsor Family Credit Union.

“United Way is making a real difference for people who are living with very significant challenges.” says Steve Bradie, president and CEO of Green Shield Canada (GSC). “At GSC, we are committed to making sure kids, families, and seniors can meet basic needs and build a better future for themselves through United Way-funded programs.”

“Caesars Windsor is honoured to play a part in celebrating the strong and vibrant community of the Windsor-Essex region. Our dedicated employees take great pride in the philanthropic and fundraising work throughout the year and are grateful to be recognized by United Way,” says Caesars Regional President, Kevin Laforet.
