Have you heard about the ransomware attack on car dealerships?

I’ll make this short and sweet. The company CDK Global, which provides dealership management software to about 15,000 car & truck dealerships in the US and Canada was a victim of a ransomware attack this past week. The hackers took control of their centralized systems, preventing dealerships from accessing their sales and service systems. Due to this event happening so close to the end of the fiscal quarter, the company appears to be preparing to pay the ransom.

So, why is this of concern to you? People are curious, and with all the news about this issue, you might be tempted to want to know more about CDK Global by visiting their website. Since the hackers have complete control over CDK’s operation, it is not inconceivable they also have control over their website, and *may* have taken steps to infect it with something that could invade your personal devices, should you decide to visit.

While there have been no reports (to my knowledge) of such activity, I recommend staying away from the website, just to be safe. And if you have any service calls scheduled with your dealership, you might want to contact them to find out whether their location has been affected.
