Celebrating The Best Of Windsor Essex With The Biz X Awards

Each year the Biz X Awards are presented to businesses, organizations, events and individuals in Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island, recognizing their hard work, dedication and talent.

Since its inception in 1998, over 825 local recipients in all kinds of industries and occupations have received a Biz X Award.

Recapping The Biz X Awards Process

In the July/August and September issues (digital and print) every year the list of categories available for nominations are published in the magazine and on our website. There are eight staple categories every year — Outstanding New Business, Distinguished Biz Champ Of The Year, Powerhouse Professional, Artist of the Year, Exceptional Social Enterprise, Best Little Retail Shop, Restaurant That’s Hot, Hot, Hot, and The Most Wonderful Event Of The Year. Readers can nominate the businesses and people in Windsor Essex who they believe are the best in each category and deserve to be recognized.

The following rules listed here apply . . .

  1. Only nominate ONE company/person per award category. Businesses/organizations/people are only permitted to win one award each year. MULTIPLE NOMINATIONS IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES ARE NOT PERMITTED. We reserve the right to choose the best category for the company or individual when a nomination comes in. All nominees must be over 19 years of age.
  2. Be certain that the company or individual you are nominating fits the category’s criteria.
  3. The nominee must be located (or reside) in Windsor, Essex County or Pelee Island and NOT be part of a national franchise/chain or non-profit organization (except for categories in the PEOPLE section and category #24). The PEOPLE section (#8 to #13) is judged on the individual and not the company itself and those working for national chains, franchises and non-profits are eligible to participate only in this section. An exception for category #24 is also allowed as many national organizations have local chapters hosting events.
  4. Every business in Essex County and Pelee Island (with the exceptions above) has the opportunity to win a Biz X Award. *However: NO MEDIA outlets or representatives can participate in any of the categories. You do not have to be an advertiser with the magazine to be nominated or to win. Judges are not told who is an advertiser (past or present) to ensure there are no biases or conflicts of interest.

Deborah Jones – Publisher of Biz X Magazine Deborah Jones graduated from the University of Windsor with an Honours Degree in Communication Studies and was employed at two other local magazines shortly after for a few years learning all she could about writing, advertising, public relations and more. She made the jump in 1998 to go out on her own to publish Biz X magazine and has worked in the publishing industry since 1990. In 2007, she earned the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award from the Windsor & District Chamber of Commerce. To date, she is the ONLY woman so far to receive this award. In 2013, she received one of the first “Windsor Women of the Year” awards from the Ladies Exclusive Alliance. Her most recent achievement is the 2023 Media Award from the Windsor Essex Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Deborah is proud to live in Windsor and truly cares about each and every business and strives to make Windsor Essex the best place to live, work and play.
