Habitat for Humanity Presents Keys in a Special Thanksgiving Weekend Dedication Ceremony

Community members, elected officials, volunteers, and supporters were invited to attend the Key Ceremony on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10 a.m. on Bruce Avenue in Windsor.

The event celebrated Lisa’s journey to homeownership and recognized the volunteers, donors, and partners who make Habitat’s work possible. The ceremony also took place during Thanksgiving weekend – a fitting reminder of the gratitude shared among all who help build homes, communities, and hope in Windsor-Essex.

The home on Bruce Avenue carries a remarkable legacy. Originally built in 2005 as part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, the home will now welcome its third family – a solo parent, Lisa, and her daughter – as they celebrate their achievement of homeownership through hard work and partnership.

The repurchase and updates to this home were made possible through the generosity of sponsors, proceeds from the Do Good Divas “A Girl’s Night Out in Handbag Heaven” event, and the ongoing support of ReStore shoppers whose purchases help build and repair homes across Windsor Essex.

“This home represents what Habitat for Humanity is all about,” said Justin Fox, Board Chair, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex. “It’s not just a house built 20 years ago it’s a home that has now supported three families in building stability and independence. Each family’s story becomes part of this home’s history, and that continuity is what makes this moment so special.”

The Bruce Avenue home stands as a lasting symbol of community, compassion, and the power of volunteerism. Two decades after its original construction, the home continues to serve as a foundation for strength, stability, and opportunity, reflecting Habitat’s enduring mission to help local families build better futures.

To date, Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex has built, repaired, or renovated more than 150 homes across the region. As the housing crisis continues to challenge families throughout Windsor and Essex County, Habitat remains focused on building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
