WINDSOR-ESSEX COMMUNITY TO COME TOGETHER TO HOLD VIGIL TO REMEMBER THOSE LOST IN ORLANDO FLORIDA SHOOTINGS

Windsor-Essex Pride Fest together with local community leaders and supporters have planned a remembrance vigil for those who have been tragically lost in the Orlando Florida shootings that took place this past weekend. The event will include speakers, remembrance vigil, opportunity for the community to sign a Canadian Pride Flag that will be sent to Orlando, Florida by Mayor Drew Dilkens.

This weekend’s event is a tragic reminder that LGBTTIQ community still faces hate and discrimination around the world. Together as the Windsor-Essex region, we will come together to remember the lives of those lost, and share our hearts and thoughts to the survivors, friends and families of those involved. This is an event where we will all stand united with those in Orlando and around the world during this painful and difficult time.

Who will be there:

  • Mayor Drew Dilkens, City of Windsor
  • Joe McParland, Biz X Magazine Writer/Blogger, LGBT Community Member
  • David Lenz, President, Windsor-Essex Pride Fest
  • Greyson Abela, President, Windsor Pride Community Education & Resource Centre
  • Local Dignitaries and community leaders
  • Musical performances by Julie Leadbetter, Michael-John Knoblauch and others.

Flags at Windsor City Hall are flying at half mast this week in a show of support for the community of Orlando, Florida and the victims of violence there this past weekend.

Mayor Drew Dilkens will also attend a vigil Wednesday night on Maiden Lane organized by the Windsor-Essex Pride Fest.

“This shooting is a tragedy on so many levels,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Lowering the City flag and coming together on Wednesday night is our way of showing that we stand together for our neighbours in the United States.”

The vigil takes place on Wednesday, June 15, 2016, 7:00pm on Maiden Lane, Downtown Windsor. Parking available at surrounding streets and parking structures.
