4th Annual Ouellette Car Cruise Revs Up This Friday
It’s become one of the most beloved throwback events of the year, when car enthusiasts and spectators descend upon our downtown streets to witness a parade of some of the most breathtaking and stunning vehicles ever to roll the planet. From vintage to classic, street rods to muscle cars, hundreds of meticulously restored and well-kept vehicles from in and around Windsor-Essex will thrill eager audiences lining the downtown. It’s a roaring 600+ collection of vehicles, a one-of-a-kind show that pays homage to Windsor’s nostalgic and storied automotive history. The 2019 Annual Ouellette Car Cruise is presented by Crawford General Contractors and the Downtown Windsor BIA.
As cruisers begin gathering at Riverfront Festival Plaza at 1 p.m. Friday, August 16, guests are invited to visit the vendors who’ll be setting up shop to showcase their goods and services: Xcentric Auto Spa, Fahrhall Home Comfort Specialists, True Fitness Gym, Muscle Cars and Classics, AM580 and Canadian Auto. You’re encouraged to bring your appetite – Big Daddy’s BBQ, Little Foot Foods, Kona Ice and Popper’s Kettle Corn will be on hand to satisfy whatever you’re craving. And thanks to our steamy summertime Southwestern Ontario weather, count on it being hot – so make a pit stop at Kipping Tire at 1197 Ouellette Avenue on your way down to the Plaza and enjoy complementary Dari-De-Lite ice cream too.
Beginning at 3 p.m., Festival Plaza will host a lineup of live entertainers, including a golden oldies DJ. At 6:30 p.m., the Plaza will throb with the raw sounds of South River Slim’s smooth blues, country and rock ‘n roll, while crowd favourite and acclaimed Beatles’ tribute band Liverpool Echo will set the evening on fire at 9 p.m.
If you’re a spectator, pull up a chair along the route – due to the construction on Pillette Avenue, the Cruise will travel east on Tecumseh Rd to Lauzon Parkway, north to Riverside Drive and back to Festival Plaza. The Cruise will be going in both directions this year (east and west on Riverside Drive) to ease traffic congestion.
If you’re a participant and haven’t done so already, register online and pick up your dash plaque at the info booth when you check in. Participation is free, but donations are always welcome.
The Cruise kicks off at 6 p.m.
