$10,000 was raised by the 18th Annual Chocolate Lovers Brunch, hosted by the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) took place on Sunday, February 7 at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts.
Just over 250 guests and volunteers enjoyed a sampling of signature chocolate desserts from top local bakeries.
Under a brand new format, VON was able to successfully recruit four talented bakers to create the chocolate buffet this year: Renee’s Fine Cakes, Sweet Revenge Bake Shop, Licia Ruby and The Little White Kitchen Baking Co. Guests voted for their favourite bakery to win the “People’s Choice – Windsor’s Best Chocolate Dessert” and “Celebrity Judge’s Choice – Windsor’s Best Chocolate Dessert” in support of VON. Although the competition was close, Licia Ruby took the “People’s Choice” prize with their chocolate cake with cherries and passion fruit while Little White Kitchen won the “Celebrity Judge’s Choice” with their Mexican Hot Chocolate Pecan Twist tart.
Our chocolate buffet could not have been better. We can’t thank our bakers enough for the remarkable talent and generosity demonstrated by all four of them. Guests were also able to enjoy the skills of St. Clair College students who performed at the event and created and donated the chocolate centerpieces. – Sharon Bevington Fund Development and Community Relations Coordinator of VON Windsor-Essex.
In the end, the event raised $10,000 in support of VON through ticket sales, a silent auction and a raffle. All money raised will stay in Windsor-Essex to help VON support the whole family and use innovation and education to serve the specific health care needs of our community.
