COOKING WITH HOPE – Souq & Sunshine In A Cup

Are you still bored at home and looking for something different to do? Take your taste buds on a culinary adventure to a place with authentic, fresh and spicy flavours . . . where everything is only high quality, carefully hand-picked, fresh and local ingredients just for you. Somewhere with a focus on middle Eastern Cuisine and comfort foods — take a trip to Souq.

University of Windsor alumni, Ghasan Bassiso is the owner of this unique restaurant in Windsor. He informs us their focus is on traditional home cooked meals, rather than the idea of street food.

Offering you a menu full of options from fattoush, cauliflower tahini, numerous types of wraps, entrees and so many soups and sides — even desserts! As well a vegetarian and vegan section!

All menu items are only baked, roasted or grilled; never fried. There are so many healthy options to choose from that leave you feeling full yet still good.

Souq is known for their authentic dishes and passion that is delivered through the creation of each meal. Their menu has an abundance of options that will leave everyone with an option that they will love.

Bassiso takes pride in making everything from scratch in store, using only the finest ingredients, pledging to only use all Canadian eggs, dairy, grains and produce that they can and produce as the season permits.

This Week’s Recipe…

I was inspired by Souq’s smoothie bar and the hot, beautiful weather we have been having lately. This is a great breakfast or snack idea that everyone at home will appreciate.

Sunshine In A Cup
You will need . . .

  • 1 frozen banana
  • ½ an avocado
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional to make it a protein shake if wished)
  • 1 whole lemon- squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla yogurt
  • ¼ cup pineapple (canned or fresh)
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1-2 ice cubes

How to:
1. Combine all ingredients into your blender and blend it up until it is the consistency that you like.
2. Add it to your cup with a lemon slice and a straw and enjoy!

Side Note
You may even add more ice cubes if you would like it to be a thicker consistency, or may enjoy it in a bowl like ice cream.
