COVID-19 TESTING INSIDE ST. CLAIR COLLEGE SPORTSPLEX BEGINS

Windsor Regional Hospital, through the support and approval of Ontario Health, will be providing swab tests for COVID-19 inside the St. Clair College SportsPlex, providing the community with another option for testing for the virus.

Testing will begin inside the SportsPlex on Thursday, Sept. 3 and Friday, Sept. 4, from 9 am to 4 pm. As of Tuesday, Sept. 8, the St Clair College Sportsplex COVID-19 Assessment Centre will be open the same hours as the Ouellette Campus location – daily, from 8 am to 7 pm on weekdays and from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and statutory holidays.

The SportsPlex will be closed over the Labour Day weekend, September 5, 6, and 7, however the Ouellette Campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre will remain open during these days. More details including COVID-19 Assessment Centre locations and hours of operation are available online.

St Clair College Sportsplex COVID-19 Assessment Centre will continue to be used as WRH’s second COVID-19 Assessment Centre until a more permanent site is set up at the Met Campus. Plans for the Met site were delayed by several weeks due to the unavailability of trailers to house patients and staff for testing. WRH was informed that these same trailers are required by schools across the Province for the start of the school year. WRH agreed to delay their procurement to allow schools initial access to the trailers. St Clair College immediately agreed to allow the St. Clair SportsPlex to be used as an interim COVID-19 Assessment Centre until the Met Campus location is ready.

The Ouellette Campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre continues to operate adjacent to the Emergency Department.

More than 30,000 individuals have been swabbed at the Ouellette campus COVID-19 Assessment Centre since it opened on March 16. An additional 779 people were swabbed during a two-day “drivethru” testing blitz outside the St. Clair College SportsPlex on Aug. 24-25.

Another important local option for a COVID-19 Assessment Centre is located at Erie Shores HealthCare in Leamington. It is open to the public 7 days a week between 9 am and 6 pm.
