Build A Dream’s “Dreamer Day” 2021

On Thursday, October 7, 2021 Build A Dream hosted their fourth annual Dreamer Day fundraiser — in celebration of International Day of the Girl — to inspire young girls and women around the country to follow their dreams.

This year’s theme was Pivotal Moments, with women from different industries, backgrounds, and age groups got together to share what personal moments and experiences changed their lives.

“We heard from a young 10-year-old entrepreneur who dreams of growing her business and a planetary scientist who aspires to one day go to space,” says Kassey Gonzales, Events Manager at Build a Dream. “We hope our attendees left inspired to make positive changes and found the momentum to push forward and live their dreams.”

The speakers varied and included Laurence Vincent-Lapointe, an Olympic sprint canoer who just competed in the Tokyo Olympics, to 10-year-old Mya Beaudry, the owner of Kokom Scrunchies.

This year, to celebrate Build a Dream’s growth and message of empowerment, Dreamer Day flags were raised coast-to-coast in Vancouver (BC), Windsor (ON), Toronto (ON), and St. Johns (NL).

Special messages of greetings and encouragement from Mayors across Canada were also included as a highlight of the event.

“If you can dream it, you can be it. There is no limit on what you can do,” shares Gary McNamara, Warden of Essex and Mayor of Tecumseh. “We need girls and women with big dreams. We need your skills, your imagination and your energy.”
