Dress Purple on October 27th to Support Vulnerable Children and Families in our Community!

Every October, Children’s Aid Societies (CAS) across the province raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and their families. On October 27 – Dress Purple Day, CAS celebrate the community that cares for these families and want to share the message that help is available and no one is alone. CAS will also work to raise awareness that Children’s Aid Societies are community organizations that are part of the circle of care that supports the well-being of these families.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stresses for families, and in some cases has increased risk for the well-being and safety of vulnerable children, youth, and families. Ontarians in need of help are encouraged to reach out to the services available in their community, including Children’s Aid Societies, or if they know a young person or family in need of support.

Dress Purple Day is also an opportunity for Children’s Aid Societies to build partnerships with local cross-sector providers and commit to strengthening families through enhanced community-based prevention and early intervention. This aligns with a key pillar of the Ontario Government’s child welfare redesign initiative focused on strengthened partnerships and prevention and early intervention.

Derrick Drouillard, the Society’s Executive Director, shares that “families need our help, our support, and to know that there is hope.”

CAS is asking the community to wear purple on October 27th, commit to holding conversations, activities, events, and take to social media to show support to children, youth and families across Windsor/Essex.
