Erie Shores HealthCare Helps Salvation Army Leamington This Christmas
Over the last month –- More than 400 teens need Leamington’s food bank – which is the most ever in 2018.That’s an increase of 152 new households in the Leamington area – according to the Salvation Army in Leamington, Donations were few and far between over the summer, When school started, families had increased expenses and food bank attendance skyrocketed. The Leamington food bank has had to dip into reserves from the Kettle Campaign to keep up with the 272 households they serve.
Staff at Erie Shores HealthCare have been helping to address this need in the Leamington Area at this time of year with the hospitals first ever canned food Drive.
Staff have been challenging each other and the various departments to bring in canned goods to help the Salvation Army – and to see which department came up with the most.
‘I could not be more proud of our staff here at ESHC. We’re in the community – giving back to the families that have supported us over the years as a community hospital’ – CEO Erie Shores HealthCare Janice Dawson
Today, Thursday December 12th was the final tally for the canned food drive – with a total of 2,613 cans and non-perishable food items collected or 1.4 tons of food or 2800 pounds for the Leamington Salvation Army.
“Having our ESHC family embrace this community outreach was something that was really special to see. Each department took it upon themselves to collect as many canned goods as they could – as a friendly competition began between departments. It is about being a part of this community, not just serving it. Helping our neighbours.’
