Essex Community Update on COVID-19 Response
In light of the rapidly evolving response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Essex has taken additional action to prevent the spread of the virus and reduce its impact on the community.
- On Monday, April 6, Council hosted their first online meeting broadcast on the Town’s YouTube channel.
- To ease the financial pressure caused by COVID-19, Council waived interest charges on all water and wastewater bills through the period ending June 30, 2020.
- Property owners who have signed up for pre-authorized payments can halt payments for the period ending June 30, 2020. Once payments resume in July, the remaining payment amounts will be equalized over the rest of the year.
- To ensure continued transparency while maintaining physical distancing, all future tender document openings will be live-streamed to the Town’s YouTube channel. The first live-streamed tender document opening will take place on Wednesday, April 8.
While the Town has closed all other facilities to non-essential visitors, a number of online service can be found online. Customer service representatives and departmental staff are also available by phone at 519-776-7336.
Following the guidance of local and provincial health authorities, the Town is asking residents to limit all non-essential trips and travel, avoid gatherings of five or more, and maintain thorough environmental and personal cleaning practices.
