SPECIAL ASK THE EXPERTS COVER STORY

They Who Control Water . . . Control The World How Water Enhances Our Homes, Property & Lives

WATER… such a simple little five letter word, but the role it plays in every aspect of our lives is immeasurable.

The very existence of our planet and the life upon it is dependent on this unique substance. Water is the only common substance that can exist as a gas, liquid, or solid. It is the most abundant substance on Earth and there is no denying the havoc that water (in all its forms) can unleash in our natural world.

Despite its undeniable power and ability to exist in multiple states, we have the audacity to collect, control, and utilize water in our own little corners of the planet . . . our homes.

Every time we turn on the tap, shed rain from our roof, or enjoy a dip in the pool we are controlling this powerful staple of life. It’s like we are our own localized version of Neptune the original Roman god of water and the sea!

Ok, maybe that is a bit much . . . of course we are not gods in any sense, but seriously . . . the ability to utilize water the way that we do in our homes and property is pretty cool!

Have you ever sat back and considered the level to which water is relevant to everything on your property?

To draw focus to many of these aquatic related topics, we at Biz X magazine decided to incorporate the expertise of a collection of industry experts in Windsor Essex and Chatham Kent, who, in one way or another, allow us to master and control water to our benefit.

Please note that all of the companies interviewed for this article were asked to comment on one specific topic related to water. Many do offer a variety of services for homeowners that are not included here, so for more details of everything they can provide, check the websites listed in each section.

With that said, let’s now see what our local professionals can share with us about the wonder of water!

May As Well Start At The Top With Double AA Metal Roofing Inc.

The very purpose of your home is to provide shelter against the elements and one of the most destructive and intrusive of those elements is water in the form of precipitation.

The roof of your home is the frontline of defence in this sense.

Double AA Metal Roofing Inc., 2177 County Rd 42 in Belle River, has been serving local residents for the past 16 years and is owned by the father and son team of Tim and Jake Eansor.

As President of the company, Tim (P.Eng.) was more than happy to chat with us, employing his knowledge in the industry. The staff at Double AA Metal Roofing supply and install custom metal roofing systems for residential, commercial, and institutional applications.

“Our customers should expect professional quality installation and service,” says Tim. “We aim for a 5.0 Google review and an A+ rating by the customer on every installation.”

The business specializes in metal roof installations and firmly believes in the benefits of a metal roof over the traditional asphalt shingle options.

“The primary benefit of metal roofing comes from knowing you will never have to re-roof again,” he claims and continues by explaining: “A metal roof provides extreme weather protection ensuring complete peace of mind during severe storms. The roof is installed with threaded screws instead of nails resulting in wind resistance of greater than 140 km/hr.” There certainly seems to be a longer service life with these metal systems.

“The durability of these roofs allows for application of a 40-to-50-year transferable warranty,” Tim indicates. “There is no maintenance required for these roofs that come in over 80 style/colour options and inevitably prove to be less expensive than the asphalt shingle roof, in the long term.”

As well, Tim and Jake comment on how snow and ice slides off more easily from metal roofs. And they always include snow guarding over entrance ways and garages. Most homeowners have been in that moment where they start to worry about the integrity of the roof on their home.

“There are several signs to watch for with respect to a failing roof system,” the father and son advise. “You should always be watching for things like shingles that are loose, missing, curled, or discoloured.

Accumulation of granules in your gutter system, loose flashings, and old worn caulking are also signs of a roof that is at the end of its service life.”

So, if you think your existing roof system is becoming aged — and it may be time to replace it — a metal roof may be worth consideration.

“Besides reliable service, our metal roofs offer value and increased curb appeal to your home,” Tim concludes. “According to the Metal Roofing Alliance a homeowner can expect to receive 60% of the value of their metal roof investment back in the sale of their home.”

CLARIFICATION: In the photo caption in the print and digital edition on page 20 of the April issue, there was a typo in the percentage figure. For the water heaters sold by Pro Trades, it should have read a 97% efficiency rating. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
