As the American General Elections are coming this November, those who are able to vote in the states are contemplating who they will elect in for the next President of the United States, but what if Canadian teens could vote?

Quotes will remain anonymous to respect the privacy of the teens I spoke to about who they would elect.

Teenagers are the rising hope for generations to come, politically, socially, and economically. As our world continues to develop, our youth is changing the face of reason and how situations are affecting their views on how they accept social standards. When asked their opinions about the American candidates running for President, our teens responded with insightful responses; “Trump is scaring individuals into voting for him, and I don’t think fearful rhetoric should be encouraged or even allowed in politics.”

While braving through the candidates speeches and being bystanders to the American’s hassles, the polls continue to rise and people are eating it up. Many teenagers believe that it doesn’t matter what party the winning candidate is from, but their values and knowledge of their country is more promising. “ The American’s have had a white and black man as President, it’s time for a woman to take the reigns.”

The craziness of racial comments made so far in the “promises” of the election is unethical. Donald Trump has made multiple statements to send Syrian refugees back to their countries while he stands to “make America great again”. “ Trump’s first wife and current wife are immigrants, his current wife is from Slovenia, and his first wife is from Czech Republic. so do we send them back to?”

One candidate that has been dedicated to his works since the 60’s is Bernie Sanders, whom a lot of teens believe should be the rightful owner of the title, President Of The United States.

“Bernie Sanders, on the other hand, has been walking the equality line since the 60’s and I really believe he is dedicated to progress.”

Teenagers are influenced by their surroundings and even though Canadians don’t have a say in the American elections, our teens have proven to develop a keen interest in the drama. Each candidate has a very different point of view and how their country should be ran, but only one will be able to make the changes they want to see in the world.

Who would you elect?
