Local Korean War Veterans Honoured With Korean Ambassador For Peace Medals

On August 10, 2024, the Korean Society of Windsor presented the prestigious Korean Ambassador For Peace Medals to three Windsor-Essex County Korean War Veterans at the Korean Society’s Community Centre in Windsor. The presentation ceremony was held in conjunction with the Korean Society of Windsor’s National Independence Day celebration.

“National Independence Day commemorates the day when Korea was liberated from 35 years of Japanese colonial rule, and also commemorates the day in 1948 (1948-08-15) when South Korea was born. The Korean Ambassador For Peace Medal is an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to Canadian servicemen and women who served in the Korean War,” says MJ Kim.

The commemorative presentation served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers to preserve peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula (the land of the morning calm!

Ji Ho Park, Consul Korean Embassy, (Toronto) presented the Korean Ambassador For Peace Medals to Korean War Veterans, Mel Lewis, Bob Goyeau and Dave Labonte.

As the Ambassador for Peace Medals were presented, guests observed a moment of silence to remember and honor the fallen soldiers and reflect on their legacy.

The South Korean government remains committed to recognizing and honoring the contributions of Veterans and their families, ensuring that the memory of their service lives on for future generations.
