LaSalle Cancels Two Events in September 2020

At the May 26, 2020 Regular Meeting of LaSalle Council, two additional events scheduled to take place in September have been cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the expectation that gatherings may continue to be limited by the Province of Ontario, and the challenge of planning an event with so many unknowns, LaSalle Council agreed with the reports presented by administration to reschedule the Last Call Before Fall Festival and the Volunteer Recognition Celebration.

The Last Call Before Fall (LCBF) Festival was scheduled to take place on September 11 and 12, and was planned to be an enhancement of the LaSalle Craft Beer Festival. Town Administration will schedule the outdoor event in the fall of 2021 with plans to feature local craft breweries, wineries, distilleries and food trucks, as well as entertainment.

In addition, LaSalle hosts an annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration in September. LaSalle Council agreed to postpone the event with plans to host it in 2021. Administration will create a virtual celebration of past volunteer award winners to be shared on the Town’s social media pages in the fall.

“It is disappointing to make these changes to our scheduled events,” said Mayor Marc Bondy. “The health and safety of our residents come first. Although these events are cancelled in 2020, we are hopeful that they will take place in 2021.”

As per the Province of Ontario and the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, residents must continue to restrict gatherings to groups of five or less and keep a distance of two metres (6 feet) apart from people they do not live with. It is important to continue to follow the public health advice: stay home when sick, wash hands frequently for at least 20 seconds, keep a two-metre distance away from others, limit gatherings to five or fewer people and wear a mask when it is difficult to keep a physical distance.
