Libro Credit Union awards more than $500,000 through the 2016 Prosperity Fund

Libro Credit Union (Libro) has awarded 41 recipients from the 2016 Prosperity Fund, which invests more than $500,000 to support programs and projects across southwestern Ontario that are helping to grow prosperity in three focus areas: regional economic development, youth leadership and money smarts.
“Libro is focused on growing prosperity in southwestern Ontario by transforming banking, and this is one way we do that. As a co-operative, we believe we can accomplish so much more together through collaboration and partnership. The 2016 recipients are stellar examples of the diverse outstanding work being done, in the 25 communities Libro passionately serves.” – Stephen Bolton, Libro Credit Union Head Coach, President and CEO.
The Libro Prosperity Fund invested in 41 organizations and community groups whose initiatives support entrepreneurship, financial knowledge and career skill development for young people – all aimed at growing prosperity across the region.
“Local decision making is the heart of our program and very important to Libro,” Bolton said. “Each of our 31 branches has a council made up of Owner Representatives who participate in the grant evaluation process and have a voice in the award selection. We believe the decisions should reflect the priorities of each community and our Owner Representatives help guide us through that.”
Also part of the Libro Prosperity Fund is the Libro Student Award, helping students aged 17 to 25 pursue post-secondary education, with $60,000 in awards.
