The WindsorEssex Community Foundation is Granting $30,000 to Struggling Local Charities from the WECF Emergency Fund

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation is granting $30,000 in phase one of grants from the WECF Emergency Fund. A survey conducted in early April found that the most vulnerable in our community are not receiving the services they need when they need it the most. The WECF conducted the survey of 48 local charities to assess the needs of charitable organizations in Windsor Essex County. The results were concerning and required immediate action.

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation (WECF) established the WECF Emergency Fund. This fund, initiated with a contribution from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation and supported by generous contributions by local philanthropists and corporate partners will support charities across Windsor Essex County providing front-line services to vulnerable populations whose staff, volunteers, programs, operations and revenue has been negatively affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“In challenging times like these, it is more important than ever for the community to work together, and support one another. The WindsorEssex Community Foundation supports our organizations, individuals and families that are pulling their resources together to help in this time of need through our W/E Cares and our emergency response fund”. Lisa Kolody, Executive Director at the WECF Front line organizations receiving emergency grants in this phase of granting are:

  • The Windsor Residence For Young Men
  • Community Support Centre of Essex County
  • Amherstburg Food and Fellowship Mission
  • Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Foundation
  • Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex
  • SECC

The WindsorEssex Community Foundation, originally founded in 1983 as Heritage Windsor, is a perpetual community trust for philanthropic purposes. It exists to manage donors’ legacy funds and make grants to support local community programs. Through grant making activities, the WECF is able to establish partnerships to assist a broad range of community organizations.
