Provincial and Federal Governments Recognize Long Term Service of Firefighters

Lakeshore acknowledged their long standing firefighters who have received provincial and federal recognition for 20 through 35 years in the fire service. Based on the years of service, the recipients were presented with one or more of the Federal Exemplary Service Medal, the Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal and the associated Service Bars.

“I am so proud of Lakeshore’s Firefighters. Our volunteer firefighters have dedicated their lives to protect the people of Lakeshore and these 13 recipients have a collective of 330 years of fire service experience! Congratulations and thank you for your service” –  Tom Bain, Lakeshore Mayor

The federal Fire Service Exemplary Service Medal, created on August 29, 1985, honours members of a recognized Canadian fire service who have completed 20 years of service, ten years of which have been served in the performance of duties involving potential risks. Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry and efficiency.

First awarded in 1971, the provincial “Fire Services Long Service Medal” is an expression of public appreciation for the dedication and hard work of Ontario fire fighters. The long service medal and subsequent service bars are available to those who have achieved a minimum of 25-years in the suppression, training, public education, inspection, and communication divisions of the fire service.

Both full-time and volunteer fire fighters can qualify for the medals.
