Martha Reeves will have you Dancing in the Streets at Winter Fest 2016!
Kicking off the holiday season, the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association (DWBIA) is thrilled to present its 5th annual Winter Fest on Saturday November 19 at 3:00 PM. Featuring 45+ units and trumpeting the arrival of the Holiday Season, the Parade will dazzle audiences as it cascades up Ouellette Avenue, beginning at Giles Avenue and ending at Pitt Street. Audiences will also be able to sample roasted chestnuts prepared by the Downtown Mission, and enjoy beaver tails – a scrumptious fried pastry shaped to resemble a beaver tail – prepared by the culinary team at St Clair College’s Centre for the Arts.
The DWIBA is also thrilled to announce that Ms. Martha Reeves, one of our region’s music icons, will be joining us as the Parade’s Grand Marshal. Known for her legendary role in shaping Motown’s celebrated history, Ms. Reeves’ classic hits include “Heat Wave”, “Jimmy Mack” and “Dancing in the Street”. Martha Reeves is also the winner of the 2015 Sandy Hosey Lifetime Achievement Award for dedication and excellence to her craft, and the DWBIA is honoured to have her participation.
Parade units include giant inflatables, enchanting Chinese dragons, Elvis’ Rockin’ Sleigh Ride, the Windsor Dance eXperience, in addition to the Windsor Police Pipe Band, Windsor Youth Optimist Band, the Salvation Army Band and the Diplomats Drum & Bugle Corps.
The DWIBA is also reminding youth to bring their letters to Santa as Canada Post will be there to mail them to Jolly Ole St. Nick!
