WINDSOR-ESSEX CHILDREN’S AID INVITES COMMUNITY TO REACH OUT TO FAMILIES IN NEED

During these uncertain times, as we all discover a “new normal”, stress and anxiety are impacting all aspects of daily living. Nowhere is this more evident than with vulnerable families who under the best of conditions struggle with poverty, addiction, mental health and lack of resources. COVID-19 has added to this burden.

The Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Society (WECAS) together with the Windsor-Essex Children’s Aid Foundation (WECAF) have come together to encourage our community to reach out to a family you may know of that may need encouragement and support. This may mean just checking in occasionally to reinforce that others care. It could mean picking up some groceries or contributing some much appreciated essential items such as clothing.

Another way individuals and organizations can help is by making a monetary donation to the John & Sophia Chisholm Embracing Family Fund. They can do this by visiting online. During this period of COVID-19, all donations to the fund will be directed to families that WECAS provides services, to provide essential needs such as food, clothing, personal products and activities for children.

Our community has always answered the call. This is reflected in the fact that WECAF is able to support over 800 families each year with the annual Holiday Program, as well as provide over 350 children with the opportunity to attend Summer Camp. This a different appeal, one that we were not expecting and one that is probably more important than ever. We encourage everyone to share a little kindness. It could go a long way in terms of Strengthening Families.
