ST. CLAIR COLLEGE EVENT MANAGEMENT STUDENTS ACHIEVE THE EXTRAORDINARY SERVING DRINKS FOR CHARITY
The now new alumni students of the St. Clair College Event Management program led a unique community fundraiser this past July 28th, 2023. After working diligently on a completely different fundraiser, that due to unforeseen circumstances out of their control, could not be implemented, they had to pivot quickly to come up with another creative fundraising idea.
After discussing for a couple of days, they were able to come up with Charity Chabeel: an event where they would serve traditional Indian summer drinks made of rose water, milk, and ice. The drink held a special value since it was a drink that quenched the thirst of warriors fighting for peace and their humanitarian rights. It was the perfect event to share Windsor’s care with our local medical heroes at the Met Campus hospital in providing quality healthcare no matter what time of the year.
The students worked even harder and even faster, spending 3 hours after class sometimes to create marketing material, collect donations in-person across Windsor, online through a GoFundMe campaign, and run 2-day donation booths across both of the St. Clair College Windsor campuses and the Met Campus hospital.
Under the leadership of Hunza Shah and Varinder Kaur, the guidance of Professor Mayce Al-Kassab, the support of Ashley Weeres from the Met Hospital, Mr. Gopal Kataria from CanAsia Foundation, Professor Dwayne St. John, Professor John Weese, and the constant hard work of the student team, Charity Chabeel ran a successful event on a hot and windy Sunday.
The team fundraised a special total of $5,555.50 and served over 1200 charity summer drinks to Windsor’s Sikh community members at the local Gurdwara.
The St. Clair Alumni Association and Bhullar’s Asian Food Imports sponsored the event providing financial support and event ingredients to help the team go beyond their targets and achieve an extraordinary level of success in the Windsor community within 10 days, being the 7th most successful fundraiser in the program and helping Windsor’s own local “humanitarian warriors” at the Met Campus hospital to always win the battle for charity.
