Teen Donates over 8900 Items to Those in Need
For a while now both Jasmine Jasey and her 14 year old daughter Aliya had been brainstorming to come up with a way that Aliya could give back to their community.
Jasey says that volunteering and helping those in need has always been important to their family so she couldn’t be prouder of her children for wanting to find their own ways of giving back.
“Aliya and Hazen Jasey have volunteered with our organization in the past and we are thrilled to see them continue to serve our community.” – Melissa Lauzon, Executive Director-The Safety Village
Aliya realized that there doesn’t seem to be enough awareness on how poverty impacts the need for feminine and personal hygiene products. Families with limited income often have to make difficult decisions and sometimes spending money on these products may not be prioritized. She wanted to do something.
Project HOPE Windsor Essex recently announced the start of a Community Pantry and the mother-daughter team felt this was the perfect project for Aliya to get involved with. Food banks need more than just food and someone needing access to food would also be in need of these essential products.
Aliya asked her friends and family on social media to collect feminine hygiene and personal care products for Project HOPE. Over the last few weeks she managed to collect over 8900 items! She needed more help so her younger brother Hazen counted and organized all the items.
Tuesday october 6, 2020 was a very special day that Aliya says she will always remember. Project Hope picked up her donation from our home. Knowing that because of her efforts, a girl or woman will be able to confidently care for herself and her health means the world to her.
Jasey says she knows these are difficult times for everyone and wanted to share something that warms her heart and may do the same for others.
Great job Aliya and Hazen!
