WINDSOR PIZZERIA OWNER GETS ANGRY! – Introduces Tax-Free, Tariff-Free Angry Canadian Pizza

Joe Ciaravino, President of Antonino’s Original Pizza Inc., a small pizza chain in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, is showing his company’s national pride with his latest pizza creation—The Angry Canadian.

What’s on The Angry Canadian?

It’s topped with whole milk mozzarella, Windsor-style shredded pepperoni, double centre-cut bacon, fresh mushrooms, and the ingredient that makes it angry… pickled hot peppers.

All toppings are Canadian too, “eh.”

Mozzarella cheese is made just down the road from Antonino’s flagship store in Windsor, Ontario by the Galati Cheese Company. Windsor-style shredded pepperoni—developed specifically for the Windsor market—is produced by Salamina Foods of Laval, Quebec. Premium, centre-cut bacon is by Olymel of Brampton, Ontario. Fresh mushrooms are grown in Kingsville, Ontario by Highline Mushrooms; and hot peppers are pickled by Lakeside Packing Company Ltd. of Harrow, Ontario.

Given current events, Antonino’s is right on point promoting their new pizza with the slogan, “NO TAX! NO TARIFFS!” While all Canadian toppings assure that the pizza will remain tariff-free, how does Ciaravino get away with not charging the 13% HST (retail sales tax)?

“We all have to charge and remit sales tax to Revenue Canada,” said Ciaravino. “There’s no way around that. But by discounting The Angry Canadian 13%, when the tax is added, our customers end up paying menu price. It’s as if no HST was applied.”

From the outdoor patio of his flagship Windsor, Ontario store on Howard Avenue, the Detroit skyline looming in the background, Ciaravino was asked to comment on current political developments south of the border, only few miles away. “Read my hat,” he says, pointing to the black baseball cap he was wearing.

The hat said it all in big, bold, capital letters: “CANADA IS NOT FOR SALE.”
