The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes took place May 28th in Windsor and was a fun event to raise awareness about the issue of sexual violence against women.

Men walked a mile in high heeled shoes to symbolize their commitment to ending sexual violence in our community. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes took place on a beautiful sunny day and the event raised funds for the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre of Essex County (SACC).

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes took place at the Riverside Sportsmen Club, 10835 Riverside Dr. E, Windsor and representatives from the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre, Windsor Police Service, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services and many other organizations and companies participated in the walk down Ganatchio Trail.

There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in her shoes.”

Biz X magazine are a proud sponsor of the event along with COGECO TV and AM800 CKLW.

Joe McParland was one of the MCs for the walk too along with Steve Bell of AM 800!

SACC organizers Denise Parent and Lydia Florini thank everyone who came out and showed the community they understand the impact of the ugly crime of Sexual Violence on women and children’s lives – your sister, your mother, your child, your partner, your friend, your neighbour, your co-worker, you as a child – one man-step at a time.

The service provides a 24 hour crisis line to survivors of sexual victimization. This service provides emotional support, problem solving strategies, information, and referrals when necessary. SACC provides information to those who are assisting survivors of sexual violence such as friends, family members, and other community organizations.

Counselling is available to female and male survivors of sexual victimization (sexual assault, sexual abuse and incest) of any age, who reside in the Windsor-Essex County area. Services to children who are victimized are co-ordinated with the Children’s Aid Society. Counselling support is also available for non-offending significant others. Satellite offices are available.

They participate in opportunities to educate the community on the realities of sexual violence, as well as its impact, and to implement initiatives that will reduce sexual violence in our community.
