On June 23rd 2016, the Windsor Safe Community Designation award by Parachute Canada will be accepted by Mayor Drew Dilkens.

The City of Windsor will now be added to a prestigious list of Safe Community Designation communities who have by being awarded this title, publicly articulated a commitment to work towards a safer locality for all. It is not the end point, but rather the beginning of a concerted effort to make injury prevention and safety promotion a top community priority with tangible results, ultimately creating safer places where our citizens can live work and play. 

Under the direction of the Leadership Table and facilitated by The Safety Village officials, including local government, public health, hospital, police, fire, EMS, University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Ford City Neighborhood Renewal and the School Board have come together and shown a considerable commitment to promoting injury prevention.

Designated Safe Communities have completed a formal Priority Setting Exercise and Community Scan to inform their decisions and formulate a sustainable plan to move closer towards ZERO. The Leadership Table believes that a safe life is a basic right and is striving to ensure Windsor has the safest roads, fewest falls and incidents of intentional harm in the world.

The Safe Community Designation Award Ceremony will be held at Caesars Windsor 12:00p.m. Thursday June 23, 2016, doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Speakers will include, Mayor Drew Dilkens, Chief Al Frederick of Windsor Police Service, Chief Bruce Krauter of Essex-Windsor EMS, and Chief Bruce Montone of Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.

In addition, there will be presentations of awards to individuals and organizations who have shown a similar commitment to safety in our community.

Parachute Canada is a nationally recognized organization dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives.
