Windsor International Film Festival Presents a Second Summer of “WIFF Under The Stars”

The Windsor International Film Festival (WIFF) presents “WIFF Under the Stars” back for a second year, running from Friday, August 20 to Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Festival Plaza in downtown Windsor.

“Last year’s drive-in event was incredibly popular, and we are thrilled to bring the fun and excitement back and for longer. Giving our audience the chance to see these films up on the big screen while overlooking the beautiful waterfront makes the event so special,” says Vincent Georgie, Executive Director and Chief Programmer of WIFF. “We’re proud to once again bring our community great entertainment, at a time when we all need it the most.”

“LiUNA! 625 is thrilled to be the presenting sponsor of WIFF Under the Stars drive-in event on the beautiful downtown Windsor waterfront,” says Rob Petroni, Business Manager for LiUNA! 625. “We are proud to partner with an organization that continues to provide a fun, engaging and enriching cultural experience and one that supports our vision of ‘building better communities’.”

The ‘drive-in’ style event will feature a slate of family-friendly matinees and evening double-features. All patrons must attend in a vehicle and follow all of Ontario’s public health measures.

“It is more important than ever to recognize the resiliency of our province’s cultural organizations as they work to adapt and stay connected during the COVID-19 pandemic,” states Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries. “This year’s WIFF Under the Stars showcases the incredible talent of our local – as well as international – artists, filmmakers, and producers. This event will boost local tourism and strengthen Windsor’s sense of community by bringing people together safely.”

“Each year, WIFF has allowed festival-goers into remarkable places, and glimpses into extraordinary lives. Once again, the spirit of WIFF allows it to pivot, and continue to bring immersive films to the heart of Windsor’s downtown in a safe, controlled environment. I am proud City Council voted to waive fees to help the drive-in theatre at Riverfront Festival Plaza come to life again, and also to help provide this new walk-in, outdoor cinema experience in Charles Clark Square,” says Mayor Drew Dilkens.

“WIFF Under the Stars” is presented by LiUNA! 625. Thanks to our major sponsors University of Windsor, St. Clair College, Odette School of Business at the University of Windsor, St. Clair College Alumni Association, Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare Foundation, Lisa & Brian Schwab Foundation, the Toldo Foundation, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island, and The Downtown Windsor BIA with special thanks to The City of Windsor.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available for sale at windsorfilmfestival.com/underthestars. Matinees are $20/vehicle and evening double-features are $40/vehicle. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the Downtown Farmers Market every Saturday starting August 31 through to September 4.

Patrons are encouraged to visit the website for more information, including restrictions and public health measures that will be enforced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
